Our Services
-
BSRG conducts independent reviews of public permit filings to identify potential compliance gaps related to residential energy code, ventilation, and documentation requirements.
As part of this process, our team may reach out directly to permit applicants, builders, or associated parties to request missing documentation or flag inconsistencies — all reviews are performed independently under our own direction.
This service exists to:
Improve code compliance outcomes across jurisdictions
Reduce the risk of failed inspections due to missing or incorrect documentation
Promote awareness of evolving energy code and ventilation standards
Our reviews are based on adopted versions of the IECC, IRC, ASHRAE 62.2, and jurisdiction-specific enforcement protocols. All outreach is conducted in good faith as a courtesy to project stakeholders prior to final inspection or certificate of occupancy.
-
BSRG offers independent, case-by-case consulting related to residential energy code, ventilation standards, and permit documentation compliance.
We provide informal guidance and clarification to permit applicants, builders, inspectors, and designers seeking to better understand code documentation requirements. These consultations are initiated either by BSRG or upon request, and are not affiliated with or sanctioned by any municipality or governing authority.
Typical consulting topics include:
Navigating documentation requirements under IECC / IRC / ASHRAE 62.2
Clarifying when certificates of compliance or ventilation letters are required
Interpreting state-level code amendments or stretch codes
Advising on prescriptive vs. performance path documentation
Resolving issues prior to final inspection
Our consulting is grounded in practical experience, current code knowledge, and independent review of real-world permit activity.
Note: BSRG does not offer legal advice or serve as an agent of any permitting office or code enforcement body.
-
BSRG independently audits residential permit activity to verify compliance with required energy-related documentation.
This includes—but is not limited to—reviewing whether projects have submitted or posted:
Certificates of Energy Code Compliance (IECC R401.3)
Ventilation Compliance Letters (ASHRAE 62.2)
REScheck reports or energy modeling documentation
Mechanical design support materials (e.g., Manual J/S/D)
Where gaps or inconsistencies are identified, BSRG may issue a courtesy notice to the permit applicant or contractor. These audits are not required, commissioned, or affiliated with any municipal agency and are performed solely at BSRG’s discretion.
🧾 Post-Construction Documentation Verification
After a project’s final inspection, BSRG may review publicly filed records to confirm that all energy code documentation has been submitted and appropriately posted per code requirements.
This post-construction review may include:
Verifying the presence of required energy certificates at the electrical panel or mechanical room
Ensuring that final REScheck compliance matches the as-built condition
Confirming that ventilation documentation is in place for CFM-based systems
If missing documents are discovered, BSRG may reach out directly to builders or homeowners with guidance and optional pathways to remedy compliance gaps.
-
BSRG tracks and analyzes building activity across multiple jurisdictions to identify regional trends, enforcement gaps, and documentation inconsistencies.
This ongoing compliance surveillance includes:
Monitoring publicly available permit filings for energy code-related activity
Comparing local enforcement practices against adopted code versions (IECC, IRC, ASHRAE)
Identifying areas where key documentation (certificates, ventilation letters, RESchecks) is routinely omitted
Notifying responsible parties when required compliance steps are likely missing or overlooked
This service supports a broader mission of maintaining consistency and accountability in code implementation — and is conducted without request, contract, or affiliation with any regulatory body.
Note: BSRG’s monitoring activities are independent, proactive, and based entirely on publicly available information.
-
BSRG conducts post-construction reviews to confirm that required energy code documentation has been submitted, posted, or retained as outlined in applicable codes.
This includes verifying the presence and accuracy of:
Certificates of Energy Code Compliance (IECC R401.3)
ASHRAE 62.2 Ventilation Compliance Letters
Final REScheck documentation or energy models
Posted compliance certificates near mechanical equipment or electrical panels
Reviews are based on publicly available permit data and are conducted at BSRG’s sole discretion. Where deficiencies are noted, we may issue courtesy notices with guidance on corrective action.
